Most modern engines are what are called ' interferance fit ' this means if the cambelt breaks there will be major damage to the valves and possible cylinder head. What a lot of people don't know is that the manufacturer recommends a certain mileage or a certain time. I.e. 100,000 miles or 5 years. Many cars on Gib don't do the mileage but do time-out. Check your cars recommendations. It could save you a fortune.
Very true,I have changed my cambelt or timing belt also called every 100,000 kms as recommended and even a red light shows to warn you, well my belts have been with no wear or tare on them, done them twice, now I have over 130,000 kms done,I will change it when it gets to 150,000 and see its condition ;-)
