the air filter is a very important part of the induction system its what makes your engine work when it is mixed with petrol or diesel,the function of the air filter is exactly what it says,,,it filters the air so as to pass clean filtered air into the air intake now if your filter is dirty say clogged with dust after a days hard off roading it is then restricting the air flow causing you to use sligtly more fuel and making your engine suck harder,also all you inake hoses should be in good condition if there not and you have bad fitting hoses or a hole in your hose engine side of the filter you could be sucking in dirt particles and muck which will cause excessive wear to your engine.

so top tip,,,,,carry a spare air filter and check your filter and hoses regularly.
