BRAVO TO THE CLUB MAROCATLASGIB4X4 FOR YOUR GOOD JOB.WELL DONE TO ALL THE MEMBERS

Solidarity trip to Morocco, February 2024. An assessment from a club member who recently attended.
In Jink, a small hamlet/commune located in Er Rachidia, (southern Morocco) there is a private school run and maintained by Association Tissagdelt and together supported by MarocAtlasGib4x4 with the help of Gibtaltarian sponsors.
30 to 40 children of infant school age attend this school 6 days a week. The studies include reading, writing, mathematics and religious studies. This helps the local children get a head start in life.
15 to 20 Women come during the day to learn to read and write whilst their children and grandchildren attend the school.
Classes are also given to women to learn to seamstress so they can earn a living for themselves.
The teachers are paid by voluntary donations made by the parents of the children.
In Morocco school age usually starts from age 7 onwards but this is beginning to change in the larger towns as more premises are allocated. In small villages, and communes they are allowed to attend privately funded schools that have been funded by various charitable associations on condition that they follow the state curriculum. This makes sense as these small children may not be able to travel distances to the public schools.
The village of Jink is really a small commune which is largely underdeveloped with unpainted, unfinished houses yet the people are extremely grateful for the help they receive especially when it concerns their children. I found the people to be extremely friendly, cheerful, grateful and hospitable, as they knew exactly who we were and why we were there.
The recent works funded by A.M. Capurro include the sealing of the leaking roof and the complete painting of the exterior of the building. MarocAtlasGib Club funds have paid for the sealing of a dangerous open well located on school grounds where the children play, and the installation of a water pipe via a meter to provide fresh water to the school toilets. Funds have also been provided by the club to paint the interior ceiling after the roof was sealed.
All the work was sourced locally with representatives of the club obtaining very low prices and thus value for money for our generous sponsor.
MarocAtlas is a Gibraltar Government approved, official 4x4 club (currently the only official recognized 4x4club in Gibraltar) and a nonprofit group. Apart from attending 4x4 events and family days out. It involves itself in charitable projects that receive support and donations from a few generous local companies in Gibraltar for projects in Morocco helping those in need. This can include works to a school, supplying a wheelchair to a person with serious mobility issues, lending a hand at the recent earthquake zone given clothes to people in remote areas or even supplying Diabetic test kits to a volunteer clinic in El Riche.
The recent intensive 6 day trip involved inspection of the works to ‘The School Project’ in Er Errachidia, delivering new uniforms to a Volunteer Nurse at the Diabetic Clinic in Er Rich, Solidarity work along the route, delivering a Wheel chair to a person in M’Hamid, visiting a volunteer school (together with Muslim Youth Gibraltar) in Taskourt (a remote mountain village in the 2023 earthquake zone), and visiting a volunteer school in Stehat run by Assosiat Amal to assess future assistance. This trip involved a lot of traveling around the country and a total of nearly 3000km.
MarocAtlasGib4x4 has an ethical policy whereby 100% of all donations received goes to the project approved by the sponsor/donator and the club committee.
All expenses of any trip, including administration costs are paid solely by members of the club who wish to attend, (as the journey is always part of the fun). This has been the policy of the club for a long time now and will continue to be so.
Each year the club also makes numerous donations to various local Gibraltar based Charities and associations for use in Gibraltar from the money they receive from their ‘dart stall’ at the Gibraltar fair.

Special thanks to all the Gibraltar based sponsors who make these endeavors possible!
