Rabat - The following is a report to the Royal Council:
“His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Nasirallahu Al-Hassan, accompanied by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince Maulay Al-Hassan after the demise of Saturday, September 9, 2023 at the Royal Palace in Rabat, a workshop dedicated to research the situation in the wake of the painful earthquake, which occurred on Friday, September 8, which caused great human and material losses in many areas The kingdom has come.
And in this regard, the officials present reviewed between the hands of His Highness, may Allah protect him, the latest developments that the affected regions know, and especially on the level of some areas that are inaccessible to Ilila, which the current situation has not been determined, and the rescue operations begin only at dawn.
During this session, the officials present for toxic royal care raised the details of the actions that have been taken to promptly address this major natural disaster.
These urgent measures, which have formed the theme of His Majesty the King's teachings and have been followed continuously since the first moments following the earthquake, which have witnessed the intervention of the Royal Armed Forces, local authorities, the interests of the order, civil defense teams, and the relevant ministerial sectors, basically:
- Strengthening means and search and rescue teams to expedite the rescue operation and evacuation of the wounded,
- Supply the affected areas with drinkable water,
Distribution of food rations, tents and blankets to the oppressed.
– prompt resumption of public services.
In this regard, it should be pointed out that in implementation of the toxic teachings of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the supreme commander and Chief of Staff of the General War of the Royal Armed Forces, urgently deployed human resources and logistics, air and land, as well as specialized intervention units consisting of search and rescue teams, and a field surgical medical hospital.
In this context, His Majesty gave his poisonous teachings in order to continue all rescue operations urgently on the field, and so for:
- The immediate event of the interministerial committee is tasked with setting up an emergency program for rehabilitation and providing support for the rebuilding of destroyed houses at the level of the affected areas in the nearest future.
- Dealing with people in a difficult situation, especially orphans and people in a fragile situation.
- Immediate management of all homeless people due to the earthquake, especially in terms of shelter, feeding and all basic needs.
- Encouraging economic activists with the aim of the immediate resumption of activities at the level of the concerned regions.
- Opening a special account at the Treasury and Bank of Morocco in order to receive solidarity voluntary contributions of citizens, private and public committees.
- The comprehensive mobilization of the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, in order to provide support and accompany the citizens in the affected areas.
- Arrangement of reserves and stocks for basic needs (medicine, tents, household, food) ) at the level of every part of the kingdom to confront all forms of disasters
It has also been decided, to declare a national mourning for three days, with national flags falling over all public buildings.
On the other hand, His Majesty the King the Prince of the Faithful gave his poisonous teachings to the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs to perform absentee prayer, in all mosques of the kingdom to have mercy on the souls of the victims of this natural disaster.
His Majesty the King, also, expresses sincere gratitude to the Kingdom of Morocco to its many sisterly and friendly countries, which have expressed solidarity with the Moroccan people in this situation, and many of which have expressed their readiness to provide help in these exceptional circumstances.
The working session was attended by Mr. Aziz Akhnoush, the Prime Minister of the Government, Abdul Al-Wafi Latet, the Minister of the Interior, and Khalid Ayat Talib, the Minister of Health and Social Protection.
This session was also attended by the first team Mohammed Bareez, the inspector general of the Royal Armed Forces and the commander of the Southern Region, the first team Mohammed Hermo, the commander of the Royal Durk, and the doctor general Muhammad Abar, the inspector of military health interest, Major Ehsan Lotfi, the director general of civil defense, Abdul Latif Hamushi, the director general for national security and national soil control, and Mohamed Al-Azmi, Coordinator of Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity”.

The Institute of Geophysics Reports: Aftershocks Persist as Seismic Activity Gradually Declines
Nasser Jabour, the Director of the National Institute of Geophysics, revealed that just over an hour ago, the country experienced a new noticeable earthquake with a magnitude of 4.5 on the Richter scale. He pointed out that aftershocks continue, with this being one of the stronger ones.
In a statement to Hespress, Jabour elaborated, stating that "the earthquake recorded this morning is distinct from the previous aftershocks, but overall, the sustained sequence of aftershocks is now showing signs of decreasing, indicating a gradual decline in seismic activity."
He further explained that "today's earthquake constitutes the second noticeable aftershock, following the one that occurred immediately after the initial earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 on the Richter scale." He emphasized that "dozens of aftershocks are being recorded, but the majority go unnoticed by the population, monitored instead by the National Institute of Geophysics."
Additionally, the Director of the National Institute of Geophysics conveyed that "these aftershocks may persist for several weeks, albeit in a continuous reduction," adding, "over 95 percent of them won't be felt by the residents, except on rare occasions."
It is worth mentioning that the earthquake recorded last evening, with its epicenter in the Ighil commune in the Al Hoceima region, tragically resulted in 2,012 fatalities and 2,059 injuries, including 1,404 serious injuries, according to the latest update from the Ministry of the Interior.
As of the current hour, public authorities continue their relentless efforts to rescue and evacuate the wounded and provide care for the victims, mobilizing all necessary resources to address the repercussions of this heart-wrenching tragedy.

Morocco's Interior Ministry updated the death toll of the devastating earthquake that struck several cities across the country, saying that the number of deaths reached 2,122 as of 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The updated data also showed that the injured victims' number rose to 2,421.
