Tadgaga zourille du sahara Ictonyx libyca The son of the desert stinker is a beautiful and gentle animal in its nature. Despite his cute appearance, he possesses a strong defense mechanism of releasing foul gases when threatened or harassed. This foul smell helps keep predators and other animals that could pose a threat to him. These animals often live in desert environments, where they have adapted to survive in harsh conditions. From the sand of Marzouka.

As part of my ongoing exploration of the wildlife in the Merzouga region and the Southeast in general, I accompanied friends and wildlife photographers Mouha Oudou Youssef Aithssaine and Ayoub Mahassini on a documentary and photographic tour after the recent rainfall in the desert. During this tour, a rare animal, the porcupine or porcupine, known in Amazigh as "tarouet" was spotted and documented. This is the first of its kind in a long time in the Marzouka region, where this animal was thought to have gone extinct forever.
The porcupine spotting experience was amazing, as we witnessed its natural behaviour in its habitat, adding a unique Frida imprint to our tour. This discovery not only represents a victory in biodiversity conservation efforts but also demonstrates nature's ability to recover from rainfall that has brought life back to this desert region.

This initiative is going on all over the kingdom of Morocco with different animals that used to roam the regions, we can expect on our travels to meet some of them.

After the recent heavy rains in the southeast of Morocco, these long-sinned dumous shells or shrimp suddenly appeared. And it is one of the shells of freshwater. ويه. They are living fossils that have appeared on Earth since the Triple Age (250 million years ago). And it can last for decades in the form of buried, drought-resistant eggs deep in the soil. Once the rain stops, it hatch, develops and multiplies quickly before the next drought. It's a beautiful adaptation to life in barren and desert environments where rainfall is rare and unpredictable.
After the last abundant rainfall in south east of Morocco, these Triops appeared suddenly. They are Notostraca crustaceans. Such Living fossils that appeared on earth since the Triassic (250 million years ago).
They can persist for decades as long-lived eggs in drought-resistant soil. As soon as it rains, they hatch and develop and reproduce quickly before the next drought. A beautiful adaptation to life in arid and desert environments where rainfall is rare and unpredictable.

Never have I ever known of this in my 30 years crossing the Lac Iriki and talked with the locals of the wildlife of the area, they never mentioned them.

Indeed they are living Fossils.
