Hey Dudes,

I was wondering if I bought a CB radio from ebay (for example) and it was from some other continent would it still work on the same frequencies as everyone elses? Are things regional or anything like that? Any advice on CB's would be appreciated.

Cheers

Adam i installed a CB that i had in UK and didn't work with the others, i think they on a slightly different frequency. Bought one from Sahara, they had an offer think it was around 90 euros with aerial.

They tend to be regional so don't waste your money!

Ok thanks for that evo. That answers that question. Sahara it is then.

Is it hard to install one, or is this best left to pros? Is there any closer alternative then Sahara?

Cheers

Its straightforward connecting the cb just power and earth terminals. However you have to route the aerial cable and decide where to put it. In my wrangler i have a soft top so no prob there. most perople put it close to the bonnet and route it in through the engine bay.

Alfred had his little machine that adjusts the power on it to make it sound good and he would be more than happy to help you on one of our outings once its connected.

Sahara is prob your best bet but see what others think

the installation is quite straight forward the important thing is to make sure u ajust the SWR output as this will make the unit transmit clearly and will not damage the transmitter.

Ah it's Brian! I didn't know who evo was! You should change your profile pic bro. Thanks for all the info man.

I guess if Alfred has that little gizmo I'll have a crack at doing it myself.

Guys anyone know where I can find a CB closer than Marbella? Anything in Algeciras or Cadiz?

there is an electronic shop in la linea that stock both CB tranceivers and antennas!! its passed Aqa just before u get to the Chinese at the end of the junction!! on the Poniente side.

if u planning to buy a CB from abroad ensure that the unit has 40 channels and can transmit both on AM and FM and with this equipment it will be compatible with most units locally. In UK e.g. the equipment they have available is only on FM because AM was made illegal quite a number of years ago! AM tends to transitmit with more power and therefore longer reach.

I agree with you stuart Sahara is well priced for that midland.

In UK i used to get a license out every year, however you only need the license to transmit and not for having the actual unit itself.

Basically what this means that the police has actually got to see you transmitting for them to fine you. Don't know whether this is the same for gib/spain?

I also agree that for the cost of the license you feel more at ease having it and could avoid some problems especially with ceprona

Ok thanks for the good info guys. I think I will make a trip to Sahara in the near future.

I didn't know about the license. In the states you don't need it. So how do I go about getting it? Do you have to have one in every country we are likely to visit?

Stewart do you mind posting the deatils of where to get the license here?. Myself and adam are interested and i would think others would be too.

I think its better to be safe than sorry. I have the aerail on permanent and that could attract some attention from our friends.

What do you mean by range, you have a 2km's CB radio,so you have on open grounds atleast 3km's of good contact.
You will always have a better reception the further you are from the other vehicle, only problem is when we are on the mountains when you are on the other side you loose reception wih the other vehicles.
